National Youth Guarantee

Sweden

Sweden has since 2006 had a strategic policy for youth unemployment in line with the Councils Recommendation on establishing a Youth Guarantee. The main reform of the strategy was the establishing of the Job Guarantee for Youth (Jobbgaranti för ungdomar) in 2007. The Job Guarantee for Youth is directed towards young people (aged 16–24) who have been unemployed and registered at the Public Employment Service for at least three months over a four-month period. During the first three months in the programme, the focus is generally on additional access to guidance and career counselling activities, which is comprised of:

• an individual in-depth survey

• career guidance and counselling

• jobseeker activities with coaching.

Set within a rights-based framework, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is a pioneering legislation that guarantees wage employment at an unprecedented scale and is path-breaking in its pro-poor vision.

Recovery Cafe

United States

The Recovery Café is an alternative, therapeutic, supportive community founded on the truth that every human being is precious and worthy of love regardless of their earlier trauma, mental and emotional anguish, or addictive behaviors.

Traditionally, a person receives support when they are in crisis and finds that the support is removed once they begin to experience stability. That model of emergency intervention and abandonment sets one up for a roller-coaster existence which is not only cruel, in that it locks one into a cycle of intense suffering and failure, it is expensive, ineffective, and a waste of human potential. It is hopeful that many states are embracing a more effective and compassionate system of care.

Jordan's Principle is a human rights principle established by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal (CHRT) to make sure that First Nations children do not face gaps, delays, or denials in accessing government services because of their identity as First Nations children.

BRAC-DOLE

Philippines

From 2018 to 2020, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Philippines, in partnership with the Asian Development Bank and with the technical assistance of BRAC’s Ultra-Poor Graduation Initiative (UPGI), launched a Graduation pilot targeting 1,800 beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in 29 barangays across five municipalities in Negros Occidental. The pilot provided participating households with a comprehensive and sequenced set of interventions to place them on an upward trajectory into sustainable and resilient livelihoods. The pilot implementation was underpinned by a research agenda including a randomized control trial conducted by Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA). The impact evaluation measured variable impacts of group and individual livelihoods and coaching

This program helps break the cycle of poverty by providing a number of supports but the citizens are responsible for upholding the following three obligations

1) Study until reaching a grade in technical/technological formation; 2) Take an active part in social services activities; 3) Fulfill their achievements in the Unidos Network; 4) Save money.

Founded in 1994, the Child Poverty Action Group is an independent, registered charity working to eliminate child poverty in Aotearoa New Zealand through research, education and advocacy.

We focus on systemic change so that no child has to rely on charity for the things they need to thrive.

  • Strong Social Safety Nets: Countries with well-funded and comprehensive social programs, including unemployment benefits, parental leave, and affordable childcare, tend to have lower child poverty rates.

  • Universal Healthcare: Access to quality healthcare for all children ensures that health issues don’t escalate into financial burdens for families.

  • Quality Education: Free or affordable access to good education can provide children with the opportunities they need to break cycles of poverty.
